Evening Technical Tour Announcement

The East Michigan Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association is pleased to invite you to an evening technical tour of EQ - The Environmental Quality Company's new indirect fired thermal desorption unit (ITDU) in Belleville, Michigan.

Prompted by new Canadian Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) that  drastically limit the waste disposal options for northern oil refineries and the U.S. environmental laws that ban the usage of Canadian landfills for many types of organic wastes, EQ has installed an indirect fired thermal desorption unit (ITDU) at the company's facility in Belleville, Mich.

Thermal desorption is a safe, established technology that has been used for years to manage refinery waste. This waste includes API separator sludge, tank bottoms, sewer cleaning sludge, etc. The unit complements the vast hazardous waste management infrastructure and industry experience already established by EQ.

This unique tour is scheduled for May 13, 2010 and will be hosted by the EQ, located at 49350 North I-94 Service Drive, Belleville, Michigan 48111.  Registration and light dinner begins 6 pm; Tour runs from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Our Chapter received the First Place Chapter Cup Award for 2009 honoring the top performing chapter in the Association for outstanding achievement serving the mission and the membership of the A&WMA. I would like to thank each and every Board Member, Local Host Committee Member and Chapter Leadership for your contributions to the Chapter and Local Host Committee which together gave the East Michigan Chapter the points necessary to win this award.  In particular, I would like to thank Michele Buckler for filling out and submitting the application for the award.

According to the application the winner was to be recognized during the Honors and Awards Ceremony at the Annual Conference & Exhibition.  The announcement was actually made at the Sections and Chapters Council meeting in lieu of the Honors and Awards Ceremony. Reserve your seat early as we fully expect the room to be at full capacity, as it was the last time. So, please RSVP at your earliest convenience to Bob McCullough at bmccullough@eqm.com.
